Stephan Bodzin Releases Stunning New 17-Track Studio Album Boavista

The world of techno is by far one of the few spaces filled to the brim with truly talented artists. One of these artists is that of Stephane Bodzin. Previously we shared with you the drive alone from the album, eponymous title, ‘Boavista’. This song was released on Life after death label. Now we bring you the full 17 track Bodzin album titled in the same way ‘Boavista’. If you’re a Stephan Bodzin fan, you’ll definitely want to take a look at this one.

For those of you who are new to Stephan Bodzin, know that he is one of the most famous artists around. I say this for good reason, because his live show is one of techno’s most revered. On top of that, he’s one of the few who continues to push the genre forward. He does so, while also pioneering his signature sound. In addition to that, he also released two other well-received albums in the form of ‘Liebe I ‘ and ‘Powers of ten‘. Now through ‘Boavista‘Bodzin is looking to continue this trend.

Album inspiration

According to a press release, it was said that over the past year Bodzin had the chance to look back over the vast archive of music he recorded but never completed. While in Brazil, he picked his 25 favorites and completed them correctly. The best 17 of them now make up ‘Boavista‘. Like a true artist, his singular goal with the album was to ‘tell stories with every track‘, as well as ‘paint musical images that evoke very real emotions‘at the listener. After listening to the album, I think this goal has been achieved.

As always, playing the album live was on Bodzin’s mind throughout the creation process. This means that each track is a powerful piece, both emotional and honest. Physical and simple, but also faithful to the authentic sound of Bodzin. The lack of live DJs and club experiences had no impact on the music. This is because Stephan has long done his own thing and never tried to live up to expectations.

“Boavista” is his first album since 2015 and it lands on its own Herzblut Recordings imprint.

And that proves it. The album kicks off with the lush ‘Earth’ which pays homage to all the elements of life – water, fire, wind, but also time, light and the rotation of the planet. ‘I’M GOING’ is an electronic lullaby song defined by a feeling of love for the people in Stephan’s life and ‘Astronaut’ has a master synthesizer who was born after Stephan’s daughter said she would like to be an astronaut when she grows up.

Elsewhere over there “Infinite monkey” which was a freeform jam that was led by the music itself, the epic pads of ‘Dune’ and the most thoughtful and melancholic interstellar explorations “Cooper station”. ‘Nothing like you’ was written in a hotel room before Stephan’s last pre-containment gig, then ‘Isaac’ is another powerful journey through space and time, different worlds and alternate realities.

Further mesmerizing reflections come from the soft melodies but powerful basslines of ‘Necklace’, the expansive synths of ‘Trancoso’ and the delicate beauty of ‘Ataraxia’, which refers to the German composer Klaus Doldinger which had a huge influence on Stephan’s understanding of melodies and harmonics. ‘To breathe’ is a dazzling second vocal track featuring Luna semara beside ‘Nothing like you’ and closer ‘Pink’ is a heart-wrenching piano piece.

Boavista is another album of rich, synth-rich electronic music that takes you to new worlds of emotion and leaves you in awe. I went ahead and included the ‘Boavistaart above, as well as the track listing below, for your viewing pleasure.

With 17 songs without a track, ‘Boavistait’s quite a journey. The album has a total running time of a whopping TWO O’CLOCK, which literally makes it a musical journey. That said, listeners can expect to get lost in the album and love every second of it. Stephane Bodzin‘s Boavista‘is now available on Herzblut recordings, and can be streamed below, enjoy!
