A Singles Stay: Gulf Weekly Online

By Naman Arora

Bahraini bards The Relocators take their fans and listeners on a singles journey, as they prepare for the release of their third EP, starting with Reasons.

In the upcoming Reasons, the three-person group have a relaxed, nonchalant and serene attitude towards the end of the world – an attitude they will continue throughout the EP.

“It’s a fun, funky song that demonstrates an attitude of being in an end-of-the-world storyline without feeling any attachment to the narrative, as we never played a part in that particular ‘movie’ so to speak,” 35-year-old Bahraini Faisal Amin, who sings and plays guitar in the band, said GulfWeekly.

Ali Alqaseer, 29, on drums and percussion, alongside Romeriko ‘Jojo’ Canlas, 43, on bass completes the band’s core trio.

In the four-minute ditty, Reasons, the band hums: “That’s it, we feel good / There’s nothing about you or me / As the sky is falling / I have reason to remember you / Never a part of what’s been playing / What the ending has to do with you and me / It’s okay to feel good / Because we made a damn good choice / It’s good to feel good / We have never been in the noise.

If the first single is any indication of the songs to come, it’s a much more funky sound than the band’s previous EP, Part of Me, released in 2019.

Reasons is also a natural progression from Part of Me, which featured a blend of motifs ranging from nature to spirituality with an underlying message of focusing on the big picture and finding the connection between one’s internal worlds and external.

“This EP comes from a grounded and detached attitude, but not listless,” Faisal explained. “We do what we can, pay our dues and relax. “

Annie Kennaugh, who supported the group on Part of Me, joins them for Reasons, alongside Maraam Abdulaal for backing vocals.

Sarah Redha, known on Instagram as The Monkey Grip, will also provide visuals for this album, continuing a long-standing partnership. Abdulla Jamal will record, mix and co-produce the songs.

The band plan to release singles every six weeks or so and are changing things this time around with more improvisation in the studio.

They approach the still unnamed EP, in general, with a more deliberate “decisions on the fly” approach, while keeping the theme introspective and reflective.

The group was due to embark on a tour through the GCC after the release of Part of Me, but the Covid-19 pandemic ended those plans.

“We haven’t done any shows since the Part of Me EP launched in February of last year, but it really gave us time to focus on the backend,” Faisal said.

“We have worked on the structure of our operation, clarified where we are and where we plan to go. We’ve also worked hard to evolve our musicality and live performances, bringing together a whole bunch of ideas that will eventually come to fruition.

“In our personal lives there are things we do with a lot of passion, like supporting tree planting across the country, education and charity. We’ve kind of shied away from putting a lot of it in front of the audience through our group because we don’t want to use these things as marketing tools.

“But we are very convinced that we are not doing these things for personal / material gain and we are now planning to involve our supporters and our public more with this side of us and get them to join us.”

Drake breaks ARIA Singles Chart record with ‘Certified Lover Boy’

Drake’s latest album, “Certified Lover Boy,” debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart, ending a short streak for Kanye West’s “DONDA” and breaking a record in the process.

The success of the new album marks Drake’s fourth number one in Australia, following “Scorpion”, “Dark Lane Demo Tapes” and “Views”. He also debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, narrowly beating Iron Maiden at number one.

As The music Notes, Drake also broke the record for most Top 50 Singles Chart debut in one week with 20 songs. Ye previously held the record with 19 tracks after ‘DONDA’ hit the charts. Taylor Swift held the record in front of the two rappers in 2020.

In the United States, “Certified Lover Boy” overtook Kanye West’s “DONDA” in just three days, according to new data from Rolling stone Graphics. This will also debut at number one on the Billboard 200 when the chart is released later this week.

NME gave “Certified Lover Boy” two stars upon its release, writing “on his sixth studio album, Drizzy looks jaded and drab, walking on water as he once again complains about women and fame.” .

“[‘Certified Lover Boy’] doesn’t offer anything new to the rapper’s canon, content to follow the movements of his old formulas instead. If Drake is serious about stepping into a new golden age, he’s going to have to be a lot more creative – and tough with his editing – to make it happen.

Review: SZA unofficially releases three new singles on Soundcloud

Seemingly out of nowhere, artist SZA tweeted “dump random thoughts” with a Soundcloud link attached on August 22. This link led to a Soundcloud account that had only posted three singles. It was honestly a blind spot for me as a fan, as there was no buzz from his music release anytime soon. Besides a few recent feature films, she hasn’t officially released any music since December 2020, when she gave us the single “Good Days”. Her last studio album dates back to four years ago when she released her debut album “CTRL”. This three song dump is unofficial since it was released under a false name, but may soon signal more music from SZA.

There are three songs that were dropped together; the song titles are “12 Nightbird”, “09 I Hate You” and “21 Joni”

The song “12 Nightbird” has a theme similar to most of his songs – a toxic relationship. The story of this song is that SZA tells a lover to stay overnight after a one night stand even though they are not in a real relationship. The message of this song has the same tone as some of his past songs, especially the songs from his album “CTRL”. However – this song is slightly different – carrying a different production showing that it has grown a lot since its debut. Even though it’s not my favorite song of the three, I love the late night feel that this single gives. I would give it a seven out of ten.

The next song, which is the best of the three in my opinion, is “09 I Hate You”. This is an evocative track about missing a lover and resenting him because their absence causes misery. Even though the lyrics are bitter, it’s a good slow jam. Of three songs released by SZA, this song feels like it could have been on “CTRL”, just like “12 Nightbird”. Everything fits perfectly with his voice, his instrumentals and all the background components. There are very few artists who I think could do this song as well as her, which is why I would give this song a nine out of ten.

= The last song included in the trio was “21 Joni”, which is the slowest song of the three. While most of the songs had electric beats, “21 Joni” was played on acoustic guitar. This song seemed very short even compared to “12 Nightbird” or “09 I Hate You”, but to compensate for that there was a visual on Soundcloud to accompany the song. In the song’s visualizer, there is a woman dancing to the ballad in an empty room. Now the music alone is good, but it’s my least favorite song of the three and it’s also short. Because of all of this, I would honestly give it a six out of ten.

What’s crazy to me about all these songs is that SZA never planned to drop them if it wasn’t because a friend of her was pressuring her. She explained how her label has made it difficult to release music since her debut album, although that may not be true. Fans, including me, have been waiting to see what she has in store for them since that debut album in 2017. Hopefully all of this activity means a second album is on the way.

Kanye West sets new record on the ARIA Singles Chart after releasing his tenth studio album last week Donda.

Donda also debuted at No.1 in the UK and US, with Billboard reporting that the record had the biggest result of the first week for any release in 2021 with 309,000 equivalent album units.

Meanwhile, on the singles list, The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber retained the No. 1 spot for their eighth consecutive week with “Stay,” while PNAU’s “Cold Heart” remix for Elton John and Dua Lipa took off. got up to sit behind Ed Sheeran’s. Bad Habits’ in third place in its third week on the charts.

COOL SIMPLE | And the stories behind them

SCYE – “Paru-Paro”

Bulacan-based rapper SCYE returns with a new song, carried by lush strings and soaring instrumentals. It focuses on the importance of tackling mental health and depression with an open mind.

“The intention of” Paru-Paro “is to connect with people who struggle with the traumas they go through since childhood and which drown them in depression, panic attacks, anxiety and suicide attempts, ”SCYE said.

“My song is also meant to remind their parents and friends to give at least some time to talk to them and listen to their struggles regarding their mental health issues. “

At the same time, the track seeks to give those who laugh at people with intellectual disabilities a perspective to debunk stigma, in the hope of normalizing conversations about mental health issues.

CLARA BENIN – “Suara Hati”

Originally released in the Philippines as “Tila,” the folk-pop song was re-recorded in Bahasa Indonesia as part of the OFFMUTE label’s efforts to strengthen emerging acts across and beyond the region. With “Suara Hati”, listeners can imagine that love is everywhere; in us and all around us.

“It was really important for me to make this song sound authentic and true to its language,” Benin said in a statement. “My producer, The Ringmaster, made it easy for me because he grew up in Indonesia and is fluent in Bahasa. Berto Pah, who is an Indonesian Sasando player, also helped make the song authentic. “

WE GOT – “Panahon”

Directed by Shai Advincula, the video counterpart to a fairly straightforward raggaefied love song sets its story in the days of the pandemic, where an isolated woman has found unexpected companionship under the most unlikely of circumstances.

Advincula explained, “Over the past year, our lives have changed by being stuck at home most of the time. There are many things we miss in our pre-pandemic life, including the affection we receive from a companion. But how do we meet our need for affection in a socially distant world? The clip shows a bizarre but refreshing take on the adaptation.

ITCHYWORMS – “The Life I Know”

The track is a piano ballad from the band’s fifth studio album, Wait until the end to start. Its clip follows the story of Awit, a toddler who begins to understand her place. Tension builds when a new sibling threatens to take over what was once Awit’s own comfort space.

Animation Director Cami Kwan is proud to document how one child begins to lose the world she knows to navigate a new realm that is both uncomfortable and terrifying. She said, “There is a beauty and awe in embracing a larger world, in seeing beyond yourself, but there is also an inherent loss in that, and we wanted to explore that feeling of melancholy as well as that. feeling of power and joy. . “

TOM MORELLO – Driving in Texas

Co-founder of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave and Prophets of Rage, Tom Morello has released a new single from his upcoming album The underground fire of the Atlas. Partnering with electronic rock duo Phantogram, the slow and ghoulish vibe of his latest song distorts his flamboyant guitar work with the bands he’s been with before and the politics of his most famous collaboration with Zack de la Rocha from the RATM.

Morello described his new project thus: “I had worked with Josh from Phantogram on my first Atlas Underground album and was delighted when he and Sarah offered to collaborate on this record. This song is scary as hell – a dark journey, a struggle for a tortured soul. The guitar solo had to feel like a avenging angel and on this record. Sarah has one of the most haunting and beautiful voices of anyone singing today, while Josh’s production is stylistically so fresh and eerie.

ELTON JOHN and DUA LIPA – “Cold Heart” (Remix)

A cheerful and happy dance piece, ‘Cold Heart’ is both instantly recognizable and yet completely contemporary – a modern dance floor fill based on four of Elton’s classic tracks expertly put together by Australian electronic group and producers PNAU .

Elton John said: “The last 18 months have been tough, but being off the road has meant I’ve had time to collaborate with some wonderful artists. And having the opportunity to spend time with Dua, even from a distance, has been amazing. She’s a really wonderful artist, and the energy she brought to ‘Cold Heart’ blew me away.

PNAU added: “In setting up a stage for the two greatest performers in the world today, Sir Elton John and Dua Lipa, we knew we had to go deep, take them to our world, the psychedelic black laser club. Where we can all meet on the dance floor, forget the outdoors and lose ourselves in the healing waters of music and undying love.

PNAU is the multi-platinum electronic band of Nick Littlemore (Empire of the Sun, Vlossom, Teenager), Peter Mayes and Sam Littlemore.
