Mary J. Blige has worn her crown of queen of hip-hop soul for nearly three decades now. But in recent years, Blige has shifted his primary focus from music to acting. She was nominated for two Academy Awards for the 2017 film Muddy and has since appeared on hit shows like The Umbrella Academy and Power Book II: Ghost; she even performed jazz legend Dinah Washington in Aretha Franklin’s famous biopic Respect.
Now, after leaving the studio, Blige is back with some new music and the promise of a new album on the way. “Good Morning Gorgeous” and “Amazing”, both released today, are the first singles from her upcoming LP, presumably due early next year for her headlining performance at the halftime show. of Super Bowl LVI.
âAmazingâ is an upbeat outing with help from DJ Khaled, while on âGood Morning Gorgeousâ Blige sings about the joy of waking up to yourself and kissing the person you see in the mirror. It’s a concept she talked about in a recent interview with Tamron Hall.
“The reason I say I feel good isn’t because every day is a big day and I always wake up like this [with] Hair and makeup. Because I wake up without hair or makeup, I accept this chick who goes to the bathroom. And I like it! Blige said proudly. âI spend a lot of time with myself. I am my own best friend. I am; we met. And that’s why it’s cool. ”
His next album will be his first since 2017 The strength of a woman, released in the midst of her tumultuous divorce from ex-husband Kendu Isaacs. The album will be a glimpse into Blige’s life since then and how she has established herself.
âWait until you hear it; it’s going to blow everyone’s mind, âshe said proudly. “It’s because it’s something that I had to do, and something that I had to say when I was in my darkest and darkest times of this life, to build myself that person that I can see. and accept my nose, accept my eyes, accept my cheeks, accept all the things i hated.
