American rockers Garbage will release their first studio album in five years, with ‘No Gods No Masters’ due out on June 11.

The record began to take shape in the Palm Springs desert around 2018 when the band reunited at the home of one of guitarist Steve Marker’s parents – Garbage spent two weeks jamming, experimenting and feeling the songs.

The group later reunited at a Los Angeles studio to complete the project. The first single from the album is the protest song “The Men Who Rule The World” – a critique of the rise of capitalist myopia, racism, sexism and misogyny around the world.

“This is our seventh record, the significant numerology of which has affected the DNA of its contents: the Seven Virtues, the Seven Sorrows and the Seven Deadly Sins,” iconic band singer Shirley Manson said of from the album which also tackles topics related to lust, loss and grief.

“It was our way of trying to figure out how crazy the world is and the incredible chaos we find ourselves in. It’s the record we thought we needed to make at that point.”

The group will also be releasing a deluxe version of “No Gods No Masters”, with bonus tracks covering classic songs by David Bowie, Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen as well as a few rare Garbage originals.

In addition to the CD / digital versions, the album will also be available in neon green vinyl and white vinyl. Pre-order it.
