Scheduled for a worldwide release on October 22 via TAPE MODERN for BMG, “Future Past” features esteemed producers Erol Alkan, Giorgio Moroder and Mark Ronson behind the board, as well as Blur’s special guest Graham Coxon on guitar. , former Bowie pianist Mike Garson and guest voice of Lykke Li, with more collaborators to be announced.

The first single from “Future Past” is “Invisible”, produced by Erol Alkan and Duran Duran, and mixed by Mark “Spike” Stent. The official music video was created by an artificial intelligence called Huxley and is released ahead of the band’s exclusive worldwide televised performance, which will air live from London at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 23 on NBC (North America). ).

Speaking of the single from his home in London, co-founder and keyboardist Nick Rhodes said: “Sound architecture has always been incredibly important to Duran Duran. I think that with “Invisible” we really managed to sculpt the sculpture as we wanted. Sonically, this is a very unusual piece of music. I think when you merge all the instruments together it creates an overall sound that you might not have heard before.

The official film “Invisible” by Duran Duran is the first collaboration of its kind between artists from different planes of existence. It is a revolutionary world first. Huxley is an AI whose ‘mind’ has been designed based on what is known about how human cognitive and emotional processes work. Huxley is a unique dreamer with his own AI brain. Huxley creates and dreams like people and, using an established technique called ‘active inference’ which was originally created by Karl Friston (one of the most influential neuroscientists in history), the public is able to explore the intricate dreamlike landscapes imagined from the lyrics and emotional tone of the song.

A press release noted: “Huxley takes concepts rooted in human language and iconic symbolism and translates them into provocative and daring images that push the limits of the imagination to create a truly remarkable new form of visual discourse. The result is a haunting and memorable music video.

The band members collaborated with Japanese artist Daisuke Yokota, whom photographers have long admired, both on the cover of the single “Invisible” and on the upcoming album. Rhodes first met Yokota in 2019 while in Japan making a documentary on post-war photography.

Speaking on their upcoming album and latest single, Simon Le Bon also revealed, “When we first entered the studio at the end of 2018, I was trying to persuade the guys that all we had to do was d ‘write two or three tracks for an EP. Four days later, with the core of over 25 strong songs in the box – all of which deserved to be developed – I realized we would be here for the long haul; but It was before COVID. So here we are in 2021 with our 15th studio album, ‘Future Past’, breathless. Music by Duran Duran with Graham Coxon, Lykke Li, Mike Garson, Erol Alkan, Mark Ronson, Giorgio Moroder ( For god’s sake!) I’m not saying it’s epic, but hey … yes I am.

“We start off with the song ‘Invisible’, which started out as a story about a one-sided relationship, but has grown into something much bigger because ‘a voiceless crowd doesn’t back down. John and Roger’s rhythm track is mountainous; Nick’s melodies twist and soar; Graham’s guitar is a knife. This is exactly what it takes for now.
