Dream Theater has announced their next album A view from the top of the world, which will be the 15th album of the pioneering prog group.
Scheduled for release Oct. 22 via InsideOutMusic / Sony Music – the second of the group’s efforts to drop out on the label – A view from the top of the world will follow that of 2019 Distance over time.
It will also be the first time that John Petrucci, the resident electric guitar magician, will use an eight string on a studio recording – a much anticipated prospect since it was revealed he was developing an extended version of his Ernie Ball. . Music Man Majesty.
The Upcoming Effort – written by Petrucci and his bandmates James LaBrie, Jordan Rudess, John Myung, and Mike Mangini – was recorded at the recently built Dream Theater headquarters DTHQ), which is described as a hybrid recording studio, a rehearsal space, a control room and a creative space. hive.
After their sold-out world tour suddenly came to a halt due to Covid, and with the group split into two camps across the United States and Canada, Dream Theater began writing on Zoom, with LaBrie thrown across. the DTHQ’s studio speakers while they collaborated.
Of the exceptionally crafted album, Petrucci commented, âWe love to play our instruments. It never goes away. I like to be creative, to write and to exercise this part of my mind.
âWe’ve been able to do this for a long time,â he continued, âand we don’t take it for granted. Every time we get together we know that we can’t disappoint ourselves or our fans, so we manage to try even harder.
The first single from the record has yet to be shared, which means we’ll have to wait a bit longer before we hear Petrucci wield his eight strings for the first time.
Speaking of the effort ahead, Petrucci previously described the experience of using his eight strings as “a similar experience to when I had my first seven strings.”
Learning to familiarize himself with his still-unreleased eight-string Ernie Ball Music Man Majesty, Petrucci continued, âIt’s totally inspiring and awesome and I can’t wait for people to hear it. I’m so glad it’s on the new record. In due time you will be able to see it and hear it
âWhen I got my seven strings I had never played one before and didn’t know what to expect. The way I approached it was that it was just an extension of the guitar range.
âI don’t feel like I’m trying to imitate a style or genre or anything like that. I just play it my way, with my own approach. This is how I did it. It was so comfortable.
