The album was first announced in late May, ahead of the Chicago summer tour with Brian Wilson and fellow Beach Boys Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin. The announcement came with the start of “If This Is Goodbye”:

In Rock Cellar’s new interview with Chicago co-founder Robert Lamm, he discusses the creative process behind this album:

“Of the 14 tracks, I wrote or co-wrote 7. And those songs are songs by a veteran singer-songwriter – me. I’ve spent a lot of years, especially the last 30 years, really into my little world to get a taste of what new artists are doing.

“The music on this new album is worth listening to. For the most part, it’s different from what you might expect from a Chicago album.

“We finally have a lead singer, Neil Donell, who is amazing and would remind some people of the tenor who [Peter] Etera was. He’s really lifted the band on his back and really does well as a lead vocalist. The public responded to him, and I hope that if anyone hears this album, you or me, they can hear what I’m talking about.

“One of the main reasons this album does so well is because when you put it on and play it, you hear something you didn’t quite expect to hear,” said co-founder Lee. Loughnane,” and he immediately pulls you in musically and emotionally.

“The very nature of these new tracks makes them high performing, and I can’t wait to play new material on stage,” added co-founder James Pankow.

The result is a set of warm, familiar and naturally entertaining songs from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band. Listen to it:
